Australian Wine Companion 2011
02 August 2010
James Halliday's Australian Wine Companion 2011 has hit the shelves and Peter Lehmann Wines has scored well this year retaining our '5 star winery' status and gaining a host of fabulous ratings.
Some of the wines rated as 'Outstanding' in this year's edition of Halliday include;
Wigan Eden Valley Riesling 2005 - Rating 94
'Glowing yellow-green; a very complex bouquet with ripe lemon blossom and a touch of kerosene; the palate is much tighter but no less intense, still to fully unfurl its wings.'
Margaret Barossa Semillon 2005 - Rating 94
'A complex wine; when compared to Hunter Semillons it has a different DNA code; tasted separately, it seems as much Hunter as Barossa; manages to combine ripe citrus flavour with delicacy; long, satisfying finish.'
Stonewell Shiraz 2005 - Rating 94
'The bouquet offers dark, dense, mocha fruit with a notable fruitcake spice presence; the palate is full and rich, almost brutish at first, but the fruit comes to the fore late in the piece while the charry oak also provides lift; has a harmonious finish.'
Black Queen Sparkling Shiraz 2005 - Rating 94 – Best of the Best List
'From small Barossa Valley vineyards including one owned by Peter and Margaret Lehmann; 1 year in barrel before being tiraged and bottled, then 2 years (minimum) on lees. Elegant and very well balanced wine.'
The 2008 Barossa Art Series Shiraz was rated 'Highly Recommended' with 91 points and also scored well in the brand new inclusion 'Special Value' section. This section is for wines that James believes offers special value for money and score between 87-100 points. Superb Barossa shiraz value!
